+ This post offers an inspirational poem by John O'Donohue that can be useful for any new beginning.  There is a particular new beginning for which I am offering this poem.  On February 1, 2021, the Facebook group SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS 2020 will become THE NEW FAITH FOR THE NEW EARTH Facebook group.  I got to see this poem because it was posted recently on the Weaving Home Facebook page.

A NEW BEGINNING

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,

Where your thoughts never think to wander,

This beginning has been quietly forming,

Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,

Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,

Noticing how you willed yourself on,

Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety

And the gray promises that sameness whispered,

Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,

Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,

And out you stepped onto new ground,

Your eyes young again with energy and dream,

A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear

You can trust the promise of this opening;

Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning

That is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;

Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;

Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,

THE NEW FAITH FOR THE NEW EARTH -- 2

On February 1, the Facebook Group called SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS 2020 will become THE NEW FAITH FOR THE NEW EARTH. 

May this new title be understood as a paradigm for humanity to shift away from fear, suspicion and violence to compassion, peace, justice and sustainable abundance for all. Please consider joining this group if you are not already a member. I hope this group will be a source of hope, encouragement and support as we strive to "make it so." We can do this. We, the people of the earth, can do this. But we must work together on a common dream of a planet made new as we move beyond nationalism and denominationalism, plutocracy and authoritarian hierarchy Yes, we can do this. We can do this because we are being energized anew by participating in the beloved community. 

THE NEW FAITH FOR THE NEW EARTH is: non-hierarchical, free, open, loving, caring, compassionate, healing, energizing, inclusive, humble, non-judgmental, fun, creative, yours, mine. 

It is not a new religion. It has always been here. It is humanity being who we really are. We have all too often gone off track. Now is the time to assert who we really are, "the beloved community," the awakened community, the family which knows no bounds and has no need or desire to oppress or marginalize anyone.

(NOTE: In late 2020 the preposition "to" was changed to "in.") 

#TNFFTNE 4 > THE NEW FAITH FOR THE NEW EARTH is: non-hierarchical, free, open, loving, caring, compassionate, healing, energizing, inclusive, humble, non-judgmental, fun, creative, yours, mine.

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE OF DEVOTION

+ Three quotes on Caring for the Earth by Hildegard of Bingen:

·         Humankind, full of all creative possibilities, is God’s work. Humankind alone is called to assist God. Humankind is called to co-create. With nature’s help, humankind can set into creation all that is necessary and life-sustaining.

·         All of creation God gives to humankind to use. If this privilege is misused, God’s justice permits creation to punish humanity.

+ Devotion, of course, cannot ordinarily be restricted to any one person or movement or institution or cause.  So, many of us now are convinced that we must include Care of the Earth as a major focus of this practice.  Our environment is facing the prospect of many catastrophes even if we act quickly to change course.  If we don’t change course, the catastrophic possibilities are almost unthinkable.  We have already done considerable damage to our planet and we should make every effort ASAP to stop destroying our home.  I intend to be more devoted to caring for the Earth.  I invite you to join me in this intention.

Devotion is not something that is done once a week, just on religious holidays, or only in response to a particular event in your life. Special devotions may be called for at those times, but as a spiritual practice, it needs to be part of your daily routine.

Devotion then helps you build self-discipline. Being constant in your prayers prepares you for other disciplines needed in your life. On the other hand, if you lack commitment and don't tend to follow through in the long run, your devotional life will suffer as well. This practice needs to be done regularly.
