LES MISERABLES -- 1

I finished reading LES MISERABLES. It was an ordeal, a struggle, at times. But the final half of volume 5 was stunning. Actually the whole masterpiece is stunning. What a glimpse into the nineteenth century. Simply a stunning acievement by a man who promoted all of the virtues I like to call heavenly attributes or characteristics: ABUNDANCE, JOY, WISDOM, BEAUTY, LOVE, TRUTH, PEACE, JUSTICE, FREEDOM. The one word which is possibly inclusive of these 9 attributes is COMPASSION. It feels appropriate to finish this amazing love story on Good Friday. Christ died to set us all free from misery, injustice, poverty, violence, hatred, fear, indifference, meaninglessness, despair, death. Our planet needs more and more compassion and people like Hugo and the fictional or possibly historical people he wrote about who often gave their lives to promote the will of God, making earth like heaven.
