SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 306

+ We are called to create and enjoy a realm of compassion, peace, justice and sustainable abundance for all.

+ It is human nature always to want just a little More. People spend their lives honestly believing that they have almost enough of whatever they want. Just a little More will put them over the top; then they will be contented forever. ... People seek after More under the delusion that they will be happy when they get More. In fact, if and when they get More, they are not any happier than they were before and they still want More.
-- Timothy Miller in How to Want What You Have

+ I am not sure I agree with this one.  I think it is true that we can and often do get caught up in this pattern but: Is it Human Nature?  In the last post I pointed out that Laurence Boldt claims that Western philosophy and theology condition us to believe in scarcity and, therefore, the need for greed.  Madison Avenue advertising effectively convinces many of us (most of us?) to believe that we need far more than we really need.  Is it Human Nature?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  Maybe it’s the conditioning, the brain washing, the constant reminders we get that we should believe that we don’t have enough until we get more of (fill in the blank).  Let’s accept the truth that Gandhi taught us: “There is enough for everyone’s need but not for everyone’s greed.”  Let us realize that true abundance is realized when it is shared so that no one is left out.  Then we can really be happy.

What do you think you need more of that you really don’t need?

+ Although Spirituality & Practice doesn’t have Abundance per se as a practice, they do offer an abundance of resources  on many practices which are all about abundance including:  Gratitude |  Wonder | Connections | Attention

Also, many of their Twelves Galleries focus on abundance.  With the following links you can quickly  choose among them >

+ I would love it if you offered a guest post.  And, I have work to do on the Abundancetrek Abundance page.  Maybe you can help.  Send an email with the subject “Abundance” or “Heavenly Attributes” or “Guest Post” to John@abundancetrek.com.
