SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 240

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE OF HEAVENLINESS

+ We are currently exploring Heavenliness through the illuminating lens of the MandalaSpiritual Paths Process created by Edward Bastian.  This is possibly the last post on Imagination. The next style, beginning with SE241, is Love or Compassion, which is, of course, as essential as any style.  But, let me ask you to consider offering your reflections on the style of Imagination.  Imagination is such a rich topic. Our images are instrumental in the movement to increase Love.  You must have something you can add. Send an email with the subject “Imagination” to John@abundancetrek.com. Thank You.

+ The free play of imagination tells us more about God than do rules and precepts.

+ Freedom is an essential attribute of heaven which we will explore more fully when we get to the 9 attributes of heaven: Abundance, Joy, Wisdom, Beauty, Love, Truth, Peace, Justice and Freedom.  We need to be free and we need to allow freedom to flourish on the planet.  We have made considerable progress in the quest for freedom but we are certainly not there yet.  It is difficult for any one person to be truly free and far more difficult for a religion or a nation.  My fellow explorers, how have you benefited from your freedom and how can you become more creative and compassionate by embracing even more freedom in your life?

+ The 12 styles of Mandala: Creating An Authentic Spiritual Path: An InterSpiritual Process by Edward Bastian are listed in SE206.

+ The 7 steps of InterSpiritual Meditation by Edward Bastian are listed in SE21 and SE213. They are described fully in his book, InterSpiritual Meditation.

+ To get inspired and illuminated by Ed Bastian, I invite you to set aside some time for these videos:
·         Seven Steps of InterSpiritual Meditation (11 minutes)
·         2 hour lecture & conversation

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 239

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE OF HEAVENLINESS

+ Continuing with the 12 styles of the Mandalaprocess, we are exploring the style of Imagination.

+ In strikingly configured yet universal patterns, dreams, symbols, and mandalas speak to us from deep within our subconscious of the new and yet timeless becomings.

+ My friend Naomi Kelly offered this quote recently when taking the Mandala Spiritual Paths course online. She is a strong advocate of the style of Imagination.  During the course she wrote:

Star Trek, Aslan the Lion in the Chronicles of Narnia, Star Wars, imaginative TV stories, movies, books - fantasy and science fiction, all have teachings to offer, or help me make connections with the spiritual.

Cynthia Bourgeault talks about the Kingdom of Heaven as the imaginal realm - (something from Sufism I think she said) So the trinity is an image of three that dance together to self empty and self fill - an out flowing of love into an acceptance of love. I am a part of that great dance, (when I’m paying attention of course.)

The Celtic Cross is a great image, of the cross encircled by the world - nature encircling this instrument of death that becomes life giving.

Naomi is a Spiritual Director offering inspiration imaginatively at the Weaving Home website & on Facebook at  https://www.facebook.com/Weaving-Home-1475482059416104

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 238

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE OF HEAVENLINESS

+ Continuing with the 12 styles of the Mandala process, we are exploring the style of Imagination.

+ To bring anything new into existence, to be a creator of circumstances, we have to imagine the new, then speak the new, then usher it into reality with the fierce force of our belief in it.
-- Jan Phillips in No Ordinary Time

+ Imagination is more important than knowledge.
-- Albert Einstein

+ Imagination needs to be linked to courage if we are to create heaven on earth which is God’s will for us.  As we continue to explore the 12 Mandala styles Ed Bastian offers, we need to see how this important style can be strengthened by our efforts in other styles such as wisdom, prayer, devotion, reason and relationships.  Courage is built through our regular intentionality and practice.  Our imagination grows as we harness several styles and become more and more integrated.

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE OF HEAVENLINESS

+ Continuing with the 12 styles of the Mandala process, we are exploring the style of Imagination.

+ Love is a canvas furnished by nature and embroidered by imagination.
 – Voltaire

+ We are not human doings.  We are human beings.  Most of us can think of plenty we can do and sooner or later deeds become imperative.  But we must always find a way to prioritize being over doing.  Even beyond being human beings, we are heavenly beings.  We can realize our heavenly identity when we open a channel to our heavenly guide or guides.  This requires that we take time to dream, to envision, to imagine, to let go of our agenda and allow God’s agenda in.  We will change.  We will be transformed.  We will reveal heaven.  We will display compassion.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 236

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE OF HEAVENLINESS

+ Continuing with the 12 styles of the Mandala process, we are exploring the style of Imagination.

+
The time for healing of the wounds has come.
The time to build is upon us …
We pledge ourselves to liberate all our people
from the continuing bondage of poverty, deprivation,
suffering, gender and other discrimination …
There is no easy road to freedom …
None of us alone can achieve success.
We must therefore act together as a united people,
for reconciliation, for nation building,
for the birth of a new world.
-- Nelson Mandela

+ I wonder what the world would look like if it was made in my image. I would save the rain forests, no, increase the rainforests. I would rebuild the railroads in the USA and in other nations where they have deteriorated. I would find all kinds of ways to reduce noise so that we could enjoy plenty of peace and quiet in our daily lives. Not that there isn’t a place for noise but let’s make it quality noise and reduce the quantity of noise we are subjected to. I would disarm the nations of the world as rapidly as possible.  I would make sure that we all knew the Golden Rule and tried to practice it as frequently as possible. I would make everyone aware of the need for solar power and wind power and possibly other new ways to create the energy we need for sustainable abundance, not exceeding our needs. As Gandhi said: “The world has enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed.” That’s the world I want to see and I now am trying to imagine and then create along with my fellow dreamers.  What would the world look like if it was made in your image?  Together we can create something wonderful.  Imagine it and pray it into being.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 235

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE OF HEAVENLINESS

+ Continuing with the 12 styles of the Mandala process, we are exploring the style of Imagination.

+ Great dreams contain inexhaustible truths, and orient us, like runes, toward our futures. One hesitates to try to explain them; one wants to dance them, act them out in living gestures. The more we put ourselves into a great dream, the more we get back. Great dreams are wells that never run dry.
— Michael Grosso in Soulmaker

+ First we imagine it and then we create it or at least we can create it if we make it our intention and commitment.  So, it’s important to have a great dream and have the faith and the discipline to make it happen.  What are your big dreams and how are you turning them into a heavenly reality here on earth? Dreams may very well be our most important direct connection to heavenly realms.  Thus, as we pray for God’s will to be done “on earth as it is in heaven,” we are praying for dreams to come true, dreams of compassion, peace, justice and sustainable abundance.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 234

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE OF HEAVENLINESS

+ Continuing with our exploration of the 12 styles of the Mandala process, we now move on to the style of the Dreamer, or the Way of Imagination. Since this is a new area of exploration on this journey we will stay with this style for a while. Edward Bastian writes:

The Dreamer naturally dwells in the imaginary awareness of possibility, intrigued by images arising from the limitless depths of consciousness.

·         Do you have vivid and memorable dreams?
·         Are you drawn to spiritual symbols, icons and imagery?
·         Are you naturally interested in mythological stories and beings?
·         Have you had a rich and vivid imagination since childhood?

WHEN YOU REALLY THINK about it, everything we do involves imagination. This is true both when we are awake and when we are asleep. Imagination is a part of every perception and cognition—the food we choose for breakfast, the thoughts we think, the words we speak, the scents we smell, the forms we feel, and the sounds we hear.

+ The ability to imagine is a wonderful gift.  We can use it for many purposes, indeed all purposes.  It can lead us into all kinds of opportunities to be creative and happy and it can get us into trouble too.  In other words, we need to be intentional and careful with this gift.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 225

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE OF HEAVENLINESS

+ Continuing with our current emphasis on style of the Artist in the Mandala process, Ed Bastian writes:
Through the arts, we might find a bridge for crossing over into realms of knowing and being that ordinarily lie dormant in our daily lives. For each of us, there is an art form that can help to transport us to a world we might have intuited, but which we have not touched or inhabited. In the magic of the artistic journey, we might encounter an unexpected moment in which we see, hear, taste or touch something that opens up new possibilities for us, or inspires us to live according to our highest ideals. For each of us, there is a work of art that helps us to know the unknowable, to experience that which lies beyond our ken, to become the person we would like to be.

+ You might find that bridge or you might build that bridge or both.  And it is important that we often find a way to do the discovering and the building together. This is definitely an important part of this amazing journey we are sharing, or rather, creating together.  It is such a wonderful thing to be a co-creator with you and with the muse who inspires us and guides us.  What is your muse telling you these days?

+ The 7 steps of InterSpiritual Meditation by Edward Bastian are listed in SE21 and SE213.  They are described fully in his book, InterSpiritual Meditation.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 216

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE OF HEAVENLINESS

+ What is indispensable is for us to recognize that this world is not self-evident. The visible is nothing more than a path to revealing the invisible — light serving to disclose the hidden light of light itself.

+ I always remember I have everything I need to enjoy my here and now unless I am letting my consciousness be dominated by demands and expectations based on the dead past or imagined future.
-- Kenneth Keyes
This is the fourth of his 12 Pathways to Higher Consciousness

+ We often experience life as a mystery.  Truth has a way of hiding.  This is true because we have a lot to learn.  We need to keep detecting the meaning of life and our purpose in it.  I don’t think I would want it any other way.  Let our lives unfold in the here and now without any “expectations based on the dead past or imagined future.”  So, let’s embrace the mystery of life as a gift as we continue to explore these heavenly realms.  They are not hidden forever.  We can and will find more and more truth, meaning and purpose.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 215

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE OF HEAVENLINESS

+ There is an endless net of threads throughout the universe. The horizontal threads are in space. The vertical threads are in time. At every crossing of the threads, there is an individual, and every individual is a crystal bead. And every crystal bead reflects not only the light from every other crystal in the net, but also every other reflection throughout the entire universe.
-- Rig Veda
This was the Gratefulness Word for the Day on June 21, 2016.

+ Although we seem to be different individuals inhabiting separate bodies, we are intimately connected with each other at some level of the mind. This image has surfaced consistently throughout human history. It permeates the language of poets, artists, and mystics, and has been repeatedly understood by spiritual adepts in all great religious traditions.
-- Larry Dossey

+ Are you ready for my credo one more time.  I hope so because I am.

We are
Intimately,
Intricately,
Infinitely
Connected
In a Matrix of
Unconditional
Unlimited
Uniting
Love
Which is
Miraculous,
Mysterious and
Marvelous

Maybe I am seeing through rose colored glasses as I share this again.  Or, maybe this is the way things really are.  What do you think?  The quotes above, and the great John Lennon song: "Imagine," suggest that I am not the only one who thinks like this.  Imagine it and make it so.

JOYFUL WANDERING -- 56

+ updated on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 4:31pm ESDT.

It is the world Nelson Mandela imagined when he wrote:
The time for healing of the wounds has come.
The time to build is upon us …
We pledge ourselves to liberate all our people
from the continuing bondage of poverty, deprivation,
suffering, gender and other discrimination …
There is no easy road to freedom …
None of us alone can achieve success.
We must therefore act together as a united people,
for reconciliation, for nation building,
for the birth of a new world.

And his fellow South African, Desmond Tutu, advocates a global transformation based on the African concept of Ubuntu. He says Ubuntu is a big part of God’s dream.

Ubuntu [...] speaks of the very essence of being human. [We] say [...] "Hey, so-and-so has ubuntu." Then you are generous, you are hospitable, you are friendly and caring and compassionate. You share what you have. It is to say, "My humanity is caught up, is inextricably bound up, in yours." We belong in a bundle of life. We say, "A person is a person through other persons."

[...] A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed, or treated as if they were less than who they are.” -- Desmond Tutu in No Future Without Forgiveness

I am imaging a global community like that. I believe we can make it happen. Why not? It will take prayer.  It will take mindfulness.  It will take courage.  It will take new ways of thinking and acting based on old and new wisdom and knowledge.  It will take a lot of openness and humility.  It will take a lot of repentance and reconciliation. We need to embrace the wisdom of the graet judge, Learned Hand, who said:

The spirit of liberty is the spirit which is not too sure that it is right; the spirit of liberty is the spirit which seeks to understand the minds of other men and women; the spirit of liberty is the spirit which weighs their interests alongside its own without bias; the spirit of liberty remembers that not even a sparrow falls to earth unheeded; the spirit of liberty is the spirit of Him who, near two thousand years ago, taught mankind that lesson it has never learned, but has never quite forgotten; that there may be a kingdom where the least shall be heard and considered side by side with the greatest. -- “The Spirit of Liberty” - speech at “I Am an American Day” ceremony, Central Park, New York City (21 May 1944).”

I can’t say enough about the importance of humility. I see humility emerging out of the spiritual practices of stillness and detachment.  The images I have are important but so are the images you have and everybody has.  We need to share our images with each other in an atmosphere of trust and curiosity.

+ You are a heavenly being.  I am a heavenly being.  It takes a whole lot of prayer to become fully aware of just how heavenly we are.  Let go of any limited idea you might have regarding prayer.  Prayer is more than anything we have learned about prayer. Some unlearning is required no matter how good you may think your prayer practice has become.
