WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF HEAVENLINESS
+ Observe the
wonders as they occur around you. Don’t claim them. Feel the artistry moving
through and be silent.
-- Jalaluddin Rumi
+ From time to sacred time, silence is definitely a holy
response to the wonders, the artistry of creation. But so is noise. Make a joyful noise. And I am sure that Rumi would say that too.
Sing, dance, move, play, write, speak, listen, dream, hope, pray, run, jump,
paint, love. It’s all art. Enjoy the creative process which is happening all around
you, beyond you, and deep inside you at all times. Find all kinds of ways to participate in the
creative process. You are an artist. You
are fantastic. You are wonderful. Enjoy
the moment. Establish your way to be
creative.
+ The 12 styles of Mandala: Creating An Authentic Spiritual
Path: An InterSpiritual Process by Edward Bastian are listed in SE206.
+ The 7 steps of InterSpiritual Meditation by Edward Bastian are listed in SE21 and SE213. They are described fully in his book, InterSpiritual Meditation.

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF HEAVENLINESS
+ God is an artist
and the universe is his work of art.
-- Thomas Aquinas
+ The Way of the
Arts might be your primary road into spiritual learning and practice. For many
artistic learners, spiritual experience is best conveyed and experienced
through creative expression. Words and intellectual concepts often fail to
capture, for example, an epiphany of the transcendent, the marvelous geometric
designs of existence, the mysterious shapes and colors of creation, the
beautiful galaxies of the universe. But in the poetry of Rumi, the music of
Mahler, the dance of Fonteyn, or the paintings of Michelangelo, something of
the grandeur and profundity of these experiences might be expressed. Our
natural affinity for aesthetics inspires us to expand and deepen our own sense
of the sacred.
+ With this post we begin exploring the essential
practice of Heavenliness
through the lens of the Mandala Process created by Edward Bastian. We will move through the 12 styles in
alphabetical order.
We begin with the style of the Artist. We are called to appreciate the artistry of
creation. We are called to be creative
artists and to appreciate those who develop the gift in ways which move us, inspire
us and transform us. Don’t let anyone
tell you that you are not an artist. We
are made in the likeness of God and God is an artist. I urge you to find the time to develop this
gift in one way or another. I would love
it if you would share your artistic accomplishments and intentions in a future
post. Send an email with the subject
“Heavenliness” or “Guest Post” or “Art” to John@abundancetrek.com.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 213
WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF HEAVENLINESS
1 - May we be happy and healthy
2 – May we be grateful
3 – May we be transformed
4 – May we be loving and compassionate
5 – May we be mindful through our breathing
6 – May we be wise through meditation
7 – May we be in service to all
+ The contemporary
mystic more often than not does not reside in a monastery. The new mystic's
community is that of humanity itself ... /
As a contemporary mystic, you are measured by the quality of attitude
you bring to all your tasks, by your capacity to be a model of generosity, and
by challenging the fear that there is not enough to go around in this world ...
Mystical service means modeling calm in chaos, kindness amid anger, forgiveness
at all times, personal integrity - to live, in other words, mindful that every
second offers a choice either to channel grace or to withhold it.
-- Caroline Myss in Entering the Castle
This was the OneSpirit Daily
Inspiration on December 19, 2015.
+ The principle of
compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual
traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated
ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering
of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and
put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human
being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and
respect.
-- First paragraph of
The Charter for Compassion
+ “May we be Loving & Compassionate. “May we be in Service to All.” We depend on
how much we serve each other. The
emphasis on self-fulfillment in recent years has sometimes meant that the
importance of service has been neglected.
It can’t be. We must step up our
efforts to be compassionate. There is no
such thing as Heavenliness
without compassion and service.
As we continue to explore the practice of Heavenliness,
we will explore Love, Compassion & Service for several posts.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS – 201
WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF HEAVENLINESS
+ Stillness is the
greatest revelation
-- Taoist proverb
+ Silence, the
quiet calm at the heart of nature, carries, or even hides, the presence of the
Divine. Cloaked in the stillness, the Way, the Divine one dwells, always
available to us through our surrender. All we need do is dispose ourselves to
listening intently. This intent listening is the essence of meditation. If we
lean our ear toward the stillness, the outer quiet, it will lead us into a
realization of the Presence around us, within us and beyond us. Outer or
surrounding stillness will deliver us to the inward stillness, the ultimate
presence in which we really reside.
Eventually, as our listening and practice mature, outer and inner
finally collapse into each other, and we find ourselves in the One.
-- Wayne Teasdale in The
Mystic Hours, reflection #5
+ The Journey of the Soul concludes with the essential
practice of Heavenliness. Is Heavenliness really a practice? I think so. But it is
ultimately a gift which we receive through surrender. In other words, we can practice heavenly
patterns of behavior but we really aren’t aware of ourselves as thoroughly
heavenly until God totally takes over.
We are always heavenly beings but we all too often think, feel, say and
do things which do not reflect this heavenly state. Let us try to remember as often as we
possibly can that heaven is “the ultimate presence in which we really reside.”
You probably know by now that I believe the practice of stillness is essential. How are you doing? As you practice Stillness, are you becoming more and more aware of “the greatest revelation,” of the “presence of the Divine?” You can always begin again if and when when you realize you need to go back to the basics. There are 40 SE posts on the practice of stillness beginning with SE1.
Wayne Teasdale is probably responsible more than anyone for creating the new and I believe essential movement of InterSpirituality. I have found his books particularly inspiring and illuminating. They are well worth the read. I invite you to visit the Wayne Teasdale Amazon author page.
I also cherish the website and the books of my
InterSpirituality mentor, Edward Bastian. He is pioneering a method of
InterSpirituality which includes lots of wisdom from many different traditions
and several great practices. Several
colleagues including me are working closely with him.

-- Thomas Merton
+ I will be sharing much of the wisdom of Edward Bastian,
my InterSpirituality Mentor, as we move into the twelfth practice, Heavenliness, and then the
nine heavenly attributes. Ed says we all have different spiritual styles which
need to be discovered, cultivated and harnessed through a Mandala Process of
Inquiry, Insight and Integration. You
can be introduced to Ed’s wisdom at the Spiritual
Paths website. Ed is the Founder and
President of the Spiritual Paths Foundation.

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF DELIGHT
The happy heart is
one that is filled with gratitude. A simple ritual such as bowing and breathing
deeply to greet each day awakens joy in us. Each day, each season, each cycle
offers something of beauty. Let us notice and give thanks.
-- Diane
Mariechild in Open Mind
This was the OneSpirit Daily Inspiration on
11/30/15.
+ This quote connects the first two steps of the 7 steps of
InterSpiritual Meditation offered by Edward Bastian.
Step 1 is: May we be happy and healthy.
Step 2 is: May we be grateful.
Too often we take these qualities for granted. We don’t think about them enough. We don’t ponder what it means to be happy or
healthy or grateful. I invite you to
immerse yourself in your own particular take on happiness, on health, on gratefulness. Writing is often a good vehicle for this
exploration. You might take a walk in
the woods or on the beach or through your neighborhood contemplating these
things. Or, devote several sessions of
meditation or contemplation or prayer to these topics.
In Ed’s
book on InterSpiritual Meditation
(and in the internet course found at the Spiritual
Paths website) we are invited to
think about and write about a variety of themes connected to happiness &
health including: Mind, Body and Spirit.
And, for gratefulness: Remembrance,
Gratitude, Trust, Devotion, Prayer and Offering.

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF DELIGHT
+ This is the day
the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.
-- Psalm 118:24
+ Now is the time to be delighted and delightful. Yes there are many things to be concerned
about but they are not the ultimate reality of our existence. I often recite and recommend The Twelve
Pathways to Higher Consciousness created by Kenneth Keyes. The fourth pathway is:
I always remember I have everything I need to enjoy my here and now unless I am letting my consciousness be dominated by demands and expectations based on the dead past or imagined future.
I always remember I have everything I need to enjoy my here and now unless I am letting my consciousness be dominated by demands and expectations based on the dead past or imagined future.
I often recite and recommend the 7 steps of
InterSpiritual Meditation offered by Edward Bastian. Step 5 is:
May I be mindful
through my breathing.
It is so simple to be awake, aware and connected in the
here and now, right? Simple, yes. Easy, no.
That monkey mind just keeps interfering.
The distractions seem to be endless. Only, practice, practice, practice of our
spiritual practices beginning with stillness can get us there, I
mean here.

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF SOLITUDE
+ The life of peace
begins anew each morning. We take a breath, awaken, and receive the gift of
life, the gift of the present moment. The great spiritual traditions urge us to
take time each day to center ourselves in the spirit of peace. If we dare enter
the solitude of peace, we will rediscover who we are, each one of us a beloved,
precious child of the God of peace.
-- John Dear
+
How do you begin your day? I often begin
with some Yoga
asanas and / or a Chi Lel Chi Gong
routine followed by a mindfulness practice, usually including Dr. Edward W.
Bastian’s Seven
Step InterSpiritual Meditation and Centering Prayer as taught by
Father Thomas Keating. The aim is to integrate mind, heart, body and soul. Before we eat Breakfast, Mary & I will
sing or say “This is the Day the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” When and if I get to the computer, I
go to several websites for inspiration including The Daily Lectionary, Daily Zen,
the Gratefulness Word for the Day, the One
Spirit Daily Inspiration, Inner Frontier, Weaving Home on Facebook and several Spirituality &
Practice pages. There are
several other sources I like but I do not always find the time to get to them.

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF HEALING
+ The quality of
life is in proportion, always, to the capacity for delight. The capacity for
delight is the gift of paying attention.
-- Julia Cameron
+ I hope you have experimented with the
7 steps of InterSpiritual Meditation by now. It begins with: “May I (you, we) be happy and
healthy.” Even a big drugstore chain
gets that as it claims to take us to the intersection of "Healthy &
Happy." What ultimately gets us there
is our ability to pay attention. In
other words, mindfulness is the key that unlocks the door to being "Healthy &
Happy."
We need ways to be motivated to continue on our spiritual
explorations. We want to be happy and
healthy and we want others to be happy and healthy. How do you get motivated? What is your vision of health and
happiness? Perhaps you could share your
ways to do this, in your vision. If so,

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF HEALING
-- Gary Zukav
+ When we are in
love spiritually, we experience an undeniable universal inter-connectedness,
oneness, empathy and
compassion for the infinite whole of existence. We instinctively experience
love as an all enveloping cosmic embrace. Love is perceived as a force
inseparable from the fundamental impulse of life. We feel
ignited by the spark of the divine that infuses the deepest essence of our
being. Every cell of our body resonates
with the bliss of the divine. We are as a drop of water infused within an
infinite ocean. We realize
that we are joined inexorably in the web of being and have no choice but to
accept our universal responsibility to help remove the causes of suffering of
all living things.
-- Edward W. Bastian
+
What are riches untold in a life without
compassion?
For there's no winter as cold
As a life without compassion.
There's no prescription that's sold
That can heal you like compassion.
Open up your heart
So you can start to feel compassion.
Get down on your knees,
Pray to heaven for compassion.
Everybody needs compassion.
If you want to be healed
Then you know you got to feel compassion.
-- Verses in “Compassion” by Todd Rundgren
+ Continuing with my appreciation of Rock’n’Roll artist
Todd Rundgren, I invite you to listen to “Compassion” which is also on the Healing LP > . You can find all
the words at http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/toddrundgren/compassion.html
The connection between Love and Healing simply cannot be
over emphasized. We are all in this
together and we are healed together or not at all. This is a point A Course in Miracles makes over and over again. It is the essential source, style and goal of
meditation, contemplation and prayer.
Edward Bastian of Spiritual
Paths includes Love & Compassion
as the fourth step of the
7 steps of InterSpiritual Meditation and as one of the 12 styles in the Mandala
Process of Creating Your Spiritual Path.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS -- 96
WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF DISCERNMENT
+ If you do not
express your own original ideas, if you do not listen to your own being, you
will have betrayed yourself.
-- Rollo May in
The Courage to Create
+ I didn’t know I would come up with 16 Spiritual
Explorations posts on the practice of Discernment when I began
contemplating this series of posts. But
I did and this is the final one. Healing comes next.
So, here is my concluding thought for now. You may soon find more on the Discernment page which I
have been working on and plan to revise some more and expand.
My discernment and the discernment of many very wise and
discerning people is that we definitely need to create a new faith for a new
earth. This does not mean that anyone
needs to stop being a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Buddhist, a Wicca,
a (fill in the blank) or even an agnostic or atheist. But we do need to come together often, very
often, to share our ideas and practices which create more compassion, peace,
justice and sustainable abundance. We
are evolving toward this rapidly now.
This is Good News.
I believe The Charter for
Compassion and the movement it has created is an essential part of this
“new thing” God is doing now. I urge you
to read it, sign it, share it, promote it, make it happen. Here it is:
The principle of
compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual
traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated
ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering
of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and
put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human
being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and
respect.
It is also
necessary in both public and private life to refrain consistently and
empathically from inflicting pain. To act or speak violently out of spite,
chauvinism, or self-interest, to impoverish, exploit or deny basic rights to
anybody, and to incite hatred by denigrating others—even our enemies—is a
denial of our common humanity. We acknowledge that we have failed to live
compassionately and that some have even increased the sum of human misery in
the name of religion.
We therefore call
upon all men and women to restore compassion to the centre of morality and
religion ~ to return to the ancient principle that any interpretation of
scripture that breeds violence, hatred or disdain is illegitimate ~ to ensure
that youth are given accurate and respectful information about other
traditions, religions and cultures ~ to encourage a positive appreciation of
cultural and religious diversity ~ to cultivate an informed empathy with the
suffering of all human beings—even those regarded as enemies.
We urgently need to
make compassion a clear, luminous and dynamic force in our polarized world.
Rooted in a principled determination to transcend selfishness, compassion can
break down political, dogmatic, ideological and religious boundaries. Born of
our deep interdependence, compassion is essential to human relationships and to
a fulfilled humanity. It is the path to enlightenment, and indispensable to the
creation of a just economy and a peaceful global community.
For many years Spirituality & Practice has been a major influence in my life
contributing greatly to my discernment of this “new thing” God is doing. More recently I have participated actively in
the development of InterSpirituality under the guidance of Dr. Edward W.
Bastian of Spiritual Paths. He has created a powerful seven
step InterSpiritual Meditation which
can bring people of all wisdom traditions together since compassion is a
universal goal. He also offers a unique
approach to the Discernment process moving from inquiry to insight and then on
to integration. He has written two books which offer wise and comprehensive
guidance on the process: InterSpiritual Meditation and Mandala: Creating an Authentic Spiritual
Path. To repeat what I said above ... we do need to come together often, very often, to share our ideas and practices which create more compassion, peace, justice and sustainable abundance ... and Ed offers an effective approach for this to happen based on years of experience and research working with some very wise teachers including Cynthia Bourgeault, Father Thomas Keating, Sheikha Kabir Helminski, Swami Atmarupananda and Rabbi Rami Shapiro.

WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF DISCERNMENT
+ Meditation is supreme among all these tested means for personal change. Nothing is so direct, so potent, so sure for releasing the divinity within us. Meditation enables us to see the lineaments of our true self and to chip away the stubbornly selfish tendencies that keep it locked within, quite, quite forgotten.
-- Eknath Easwaran
in God Makes the Rivers to Flow: Sacred
Literature of the World
+ Discernment depends on a continuing commitment to the
practices we are exploring which can all be viewed as Meditation or Prayer or
Contemplation. We all need to find ways
to “chip away the stubbornly selfish tendencies” which keep us separated from our
Heavenly Self which is intimately, intricately, infinitely connected by a
matrix of unconditional, unlimited, uniting Love which is miraculous,
mysterious and marvelous.
+ The video above is offered by Edward Bastian of the Spiritual Paths Institute. In it, he leads us through the 7 steps of InterSpiritual Meditation. You may want to pause it at steps 5 and 6 so that you can go deep into meditation.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS -- 35
WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF STILLNESS
+ There are at
least four essential elements composing the foundation of the enlightenment
process: purification, concentration, effort, and mastery. It is helpful for us
to evaluate our practice by the criteria of one or more of these essential
characteristics.
In addition, when
we understand the purpose of these elements, we gain a fresh appreciation of
many different practices and traditions because we are better prepared to see
the universality in the process of spiritual inquiry. This deepens our own
inner work and helps us to respect others.
— David Cooper in A
Heart of Stillness: A Complete Guide to Learning the Art of Meditation
+ Spirituality & Practice offers a book
review of The Heart of Stillness by
David Cooper. Here is an excerpt from the review: "Emphasizing that
modern seekers have access to more resources for spiritual development than
have past generations, Cooper probes the inner work of purification,
concentration, effort and mastery through the wisdom teachings of Christianity,
Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam. Meditation has never been explained so
clearly and so richly."

+ The great wisdom traditions of the planet have mystical
underpinnings which unite us in so many ways.
It is refreshing and now it is indeed vital to explore what we have in
common. Rabbi David Cooper is one who
can guide us in this exploration of our mystical roots. There are many more. I am only naming a few
of my favorites here: Edward Bastian,
Wayne Teasdale, Karen Armstrong, Aldous Huxley, Elizabeth Lesser and, of
course, Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat who give us such a rich variety of
spiritual practices at Spirituality & Practice.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS -- 32
WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF STILLNESS
Step 5 of
InterSpiritual Meditation: "May I Be Focused and Mindful Through Breathing”
Calm, steady, and focused breathing are at the
heart of many secular and spiritual techniques of meditation. When we breathe
properly, we become less stressed and distracted; we are able to think more
clearly, and to focus on the task at hand. Our blood-pressure drops, and our
anxiety disappears. Many spiritual traditions teach deep and profound methods
of breathing that balance our energies and center our consciousness deep within
our being, where we are able to concentrate on our spiritual practice. In this
step, we allow our consciousness to recede from our eyes, ears, nose, tongue,
touch, thoughts, and emotions. As we breathe gently, our consciousness rides on
the subtle breath into our heart center. This is the place that many traditions
call ‘the seat of the soul,’ the core of our consciousness. Residing there, we
may begin our own respective meditations, contemplations, and prayers. In this
process, we learn to develop the capacity of ‘mindfulness’ and to observe our
innermost thoughts, emotions, habits, and memories.
Everybody has
a unique rhythm of breathing. When I
focus on my breathing, I like to begin with the exhale, the emptying, the
letting go, the release, the surrender.
I say: “Breathe deeply.” Then,
the inhale becomes a powerful, creative, inspiring, illuminating, divine source
of love and abundance. I say: Breathe
fully.”
Breathe deeply.
Breathe fully.
Be still. Be
silent.
Be centered. Be
grounded.
Lighten up. Loosen
up.
Let go. Let God.
Celebrate. Enjoy.
Be glad all over.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS --21
WE ARE EXPLORING THE PRACTICE
OF STILLNESS
+ A couple of quotes by Thich Nhat Hanh:
Smile,
breathe,
and go slowly.
Breath is the
bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your
thoughts. Whenever your mind becomes scattered, use your breath as the means to
take hold of your mind again.
+ In the Seven Steps of InterSpiritual Meditation, mindfulness
is connected to our breathing. Dr. Edward Bastian, the founder of The Spiritual Paths Institute, is the creator of the 7 steps, wants us to realize that mindfulness is
done in the context of a focused and integrated spiritual practice. Here are the seven steps:
1 - May we be happy and healthy
2 – May we be grateful
3 – May we be transformed
4 – May we be loving and compassionate
5 – May we be mindful through our breathing
6 – May we be wise through meditation
7 – May we be in service to all
Ed has done a video where he leads us through these 7 steps with the sound of ocean waves
in the background.
Hindus and Buddhists have long taught the importance of connecting mindfulness to breathing. Breath awareness is the great opening to deeper and deeper mindfulness as you can see in the 112 techniques of meditation from the ancient Indian text, Vigyan Bhairav Tantra.

SPIRITUAL EXPLORATIONS -- 1
+ I invite you to join me on a journey that will take us to both familiar and
unfamiliar realms of our greater heavenly existence. In other words, let's explore heaven. Jesus said: "The Kingdom of Heaven is within you." (Luke 17:21)
Some of my posts will be very short and others perhaps a little longer but rarely or never as long as this one. I plan to offer at least 366 of these posts so they can be a daily blessing. Each post will include a quote by a wise spiritual teacher and a brief reflection.

I have a plan! There will be four major areas of
exploration. We will begin with the spiritual practice of stillness which leads
to the related practices of detachment and humility. I believe these are essential practices of the journey of the Mind. I don’t know how long this portion of the
journey will take. The next portion of
the journey will be an exploration of practices of the Heart: silence,
discernment and healing. I believe these
practices come naturally once we have developed some proficiency in
mindfulness. The third portion will
focus on Body explorations: solitude, devotion and holiness. The fourth portion will focus on Soul
explorations: simplicity, delight and heavenliness. Later, there will be posts on the 9 heavenly attributes of abundance, joy, wisdom, beauty, love, truth, peace, justice and freedom.
On the Abundancetrek.com home page you will find a table with links to pages on each of these 12 spiritual practices and each of the 9 heavenly attributes. I intend to add more reflections and resources to these pages during 2016 and beyond. UPDATE 6/ 14/19: This is nolonger true but You can get to that table here.

I believe we are
heavenly beings having a temporary human being experience. But our awareness of our heavenly existence
is limited. Let’s explore heaven! We can definitely move beyond these human
limits through spiritual practices.
“Be
still and know that I am God.”
-- Psalm 46:10
-- Psalm 46:10
“To the mind that is still the whole
universe surrenders.”
-- Lao Tzu
-- Lao Tzu
“To
meet everything and everyone through stillness
instead of mental noise
instead of mental noise
is
the greatest gift you can offer to the universe.”
--
Eckhart Tolle in Stillness Speaks
It is simple to be still
but it is not easy.
I am convinced that
the practice of stillness is essential if we are to become more and more aware
of our heavenly existence.
And I am not the
only one. This exploration of the practice of stillness will offer the insights
and inspiring wisdom of some very wise guides including The Buddha, Jesus, Joseph
Naft, Herman Hesse, Franz Kafka, Eckhart
Tolle, Howard Thurman, Dag Hammarskjold, Edward Bastian, Joan Noeldechen, Erich
Schiffmann, Omkarananda, Richard Mahler, Barbara Kingsolver, T.S. Eliot, Henri Nouwen, Ravi
Ravindra, G.K. Chesterton, Stonehouse, Lao-Tzu, Deepak Chopra, Bede Griffiths, Rosen
Takashina, Paul Brunton, Henry David Thoreau, Hui-Neng, Sri Nisargadatta
Maharaj, Meister Eckhart, Tara Brach, Ji Aoi Isshi and more. These guides offer powerful guidance and
inspiration for people choosing to receive and share the abundant gifts which come to us as we become still, as
we practice stillness.
I will offer their
wisdom and regularly offer reflections of my own. I would love to hear from you and offer your
reflections from time to time.
So, I invite you to
join me.
I
believe:
We are
intimately, intricately and infinitely connected
by a matrix of
unconditional, unlimited and uniting love
which is
miraculous, mysterious and marvelous.
In
order to experience this greater reality we need to:
Breathe deeply. Breathe fully.
Be still. Be silent.
Be centered. Be grounded.
Lighten up. Loosen up.
Let go. Let God.
Celebrate. Enjoy.
Be glad all over!

JOYFUL WANDERING -- 47
+ I have some catching up to do since it has been 2 months since I last posted here.
+ I really enjoyed an e-course on InterSpiritual Meditation which ended about a month ago. I wrote a 17 page paper for the course and sent it to the teacher, Ed Bastian, on April 29. Ed is the founder and president of the Spiritual Paths Institute based in Santa Barbara CA.
Here is an excerpt from the web page on the curriculum: "The Spiritual Paths Institute curriculum on InterSpiritual Wisdom is a course of study with respected teachers of contemplative wisdom and applied spirituality that combines intellect, heart, and spiritual practice. It was developed by an InterSpiritual team of exceptional teachers, each authenticated within their respective traditions. The program is based on an intellectual inquiry and contemplative experience of the teachings of the worlds sacred traditions combined with personally mentored spiritual practice."
On another page, there is this information about Ed's books and current courses: "Ed Bastian, who has led our group programs over the past ten years, is presenting a series of retreats, classes, and online courses that summarize the underlying shared wisdom offered by our teachers and courses. These courses are based on the following books and workbooks that he has authored, co-authored, or published: Living Fully Dying Well, InterSpiritual Meditation, Meditations for InterSpiritual Wisdom and Creating Your Spiritual Path"
+ Spirituality and Practice offers its latest 12s gallery. It's on Forgiveness. Inspirational and challenging. Humanity needs this desperately. And don't forget to forgive yourself.
+ The current emphasis at Inner Frontier is Wisdom. There is plenty of illuminating and inspiring and challenging wisdom in these weekly Inner Work practices. This week the focus is on Spiritual Efficacy. Here is an excerpt: "Teachers can help by instructing us in spiritual practices. They can also help by being examples that ordinary people, no different than us, can enter true spiritual transformation. Teachers can help by easing our way into deeper experiences through the quality of their energy, when we practice in person with them. And teachers can inspire us. All of that is important, useful, perhaps even pivotal in setting our feet on the path. But it masks a fundamental truth: the spiritual path is within us, it cannot be shown, it can only be discovered."
+ (posted yesterday on Coffee Break 371 on my John A Wilde blog):
“Religion Beyond the Right" by Frank Bruni is an outstanding NY Times Op Ed column pointing out that there really are a lot of biblical values associated with the Left and the Center. Bruni focuses on the controversy surrounding the Boy Scouts ban on gays. Excerpt: "'I find it perplexing the way the "moral values" phrase is used,' said the Rev. Mark Greiner... (a Presbyterian pastor)... 'Concern for the environment, concern for workers’ rights: those are moral values,' he told me. 'But the phrase ends up being limited to matters of human sexuality, as if Jesus was primarily concerned with what people did with their reproductive parts. It’s crazy-making.' Greiner wants the ban on gay scouts and leaders lifted." | Read the article
